keeping veterans off the street

those that served our country Deserve the best of us

A few years ago, a number of local organizations and Mayor Williams came together to fix a major need for our community. There was a significant number of homeless veterans living in Abilene. Mayor Williams knew that if the community could find a way to find homes for these veterans, it would be a way of thanking those that have signed up to serve our county. However, they didn’t want to stop there. The goal was not only to get these veterans off the street but to have a system in place to find a home for veterans might be forced into homelessness in the future.

Mayor Williams worked and supported the incredible hard work of a number of non-profits, all working together, to reach their goal. Mayor Williams knows that when a strong community comes together to achieve a goal, and government leadership does what it can to support it, get things can be accomplished. Effectively ending veteran homelessness, which Abilene has done, is the perfect example.

Someone who served our country should not be forced to live on the streets and thanks to incredible volunteers, a strong community, and Mayor Williams, in Abilene, they aren’t.
